6th Year Graduation for the class of 2021

The class of 2021's Graduation took place during school on Monday. Unfortunately, due to the current lockdown, no parents were able to attend, however a recording of the event will be available on Facebook shortly.

Despite this it turned out to be a really enjoyable event and so much nicer to be together in person to celebrate this year's students time at Arklow CBS. Their successes in their subjects, in music, art & sport to and service to the school were celebrated. Student awards were also given to each class, 6A winners were Ross Kenny & Ryan Kenny. 6B was won by Cian McLoughlin and 6C my Marcel Kasperek. The honour of student of the Year went to Conor Nugent. In addition, our Head Boy, Ryan Kenny was awarded with a perpetual shield. Our vice Head Boy, Darren Gilhawley also received a shield.

Afterwards we had an outdoor socially distanced BBQ and a socially distanced staff v student penalty shoot out. While the winner of this competition is still in dispute the clear winners, the teachers, say a big thank you to Ms Byrne for heroic efforts in goal.

A very big thank you to the students & staff who worked so hard behind the scenes to help make this special.

We wish all our students the very best in their examination (Predicted and written examinations) and health, happiness & success in the next chapter of their lives.

From all the staff of Arklow CBS

TY News

TY Walk

Last Friday saw TY students go on a walk around Arklow Town. The weather was stunningly beautiful and we couldn't have asked for a better day! First stop along the walk was the River Bank. Then we headed out to Kilbride to visit the Howard Mausoleum or affectionately known as the Arklow Pyramid. Students were amazed at the size of the pyramid and at the beauty of it! The craftsmanship of the graves was something the students were in awe of. It was a shame to see so many of the gravestones broken though.

After a picnic near the graveyard grounds students then walked across to Love lane and had an impromptu game of football and volleyball in the grounds of Ms. Battye's house! Ms. Battye was one of the accompanying teachers and was very happy to allow her garden to be used! Students had a great laugh playing soccer but soon hunger set in!

It was then down Love Lane and over to the quay where refreshments were bought from the trading vans. Then off to the beach we went.

A total of 13km was walked on that day so fair play to the students on their fitness! A really enjoyable day was had by all and many thanks go to Ms. White, Elaine and Ms. Battye for organising and accompanying the boys.

TY(B) Tidy Towns Project

TY(B) took on a Tidy Towns project on Thursday to improve the walkway around Ditch Lane and the area in front of St. Peter’s. The busy lane is used by many and thanks to the students hard work it is now litter free. The students did a superb job, including weeding, sweeping, and litter picking. They are a credit to themselves and to the school. A special thank you to Teresa Earls and Sandra Duffy from the Tidy Towns Committee and to Ms. A. Kinsella and Elaine Coade.

Summer Assessments

Our summer house exams for 1st,2nd and 5th Years are running from May 26th -28th. The students have been given a copy of the exam timetable and the timetables are also available on the school website. We would encourage all students to make out a study plan and to start revising.

New School Building update

Site Visit 6May21.png

This week saw our new school building taking a step closer to becoming a reality as a team of Architects and Engineers visited us on site. These companies are hoping to make a successful tender for the design of our new school campus. The tendering process for this stage of the development will close by the end of May and the successful tender will be approved in June 2021.

Love is in the air

All of us here in Arklow CBS would like to wish Mr. O’Gorman and his fiancée the very best of luck as they “tie the knot”. Congratulation and best wishes to you both.

Wise words from 1st Years

In this week’s Life Skill’s class, our 1st Years decided to send messages of advice and encouragement to the incoming 1st years who will be staring with us in September. Well done to all involved in this lovely gesture.
