Gallery Visit

5th and 6th Year Art students travelled to the National Gallery, Tuesday 26th September. All students participated in a sketching tour of the selected paintings from the National Collection. They had the opportunity to view selected works from the many works in the permanent collection including the Taking of Christ by Caravaggio and the monumental history painting - The Wedding of Strongbow and Aoife, by Daniel Maclise! This session was followed by a workshop and guided tour of the current exhibition - Roderic O’ Conor and the Moderns, from Paris to Pont Aven. Students thoroughly enjoyed this trip and many thanks to Ms. Charlton and Ms. Stafford for accompanying them.

School Open Night

Just a reminder that our school open night is on this coming Thursday at 7pm. Parents & guardians of prospective students including the students themselves are invited to attend. Here they will get the opportunity to view and experience all that C.B.S. has to offer. Teachers will all be available to discuss their subjects; the special needs coordinator will also be available for parents to meet with. Students will have the opportunity to participate in many activities and games along with performing experiments in the labs. A fun & informative evening is guaranteed.

Music

Arklow C.B.S. choir had the honour of being to invited to perform at the Edmund Rice Principal’s conference in Druid Glen on Friday. Students alongside Ms. Lee their music teacher put in hours of practice and it certainly paid off as the choir’s singing on the day was amazing and Mr. Somers was extremely proud of the way the students conducted themselves in front of many other visiting Principals and conference facilitators. Many many thanks to Ms. Lee for all her hard work and dedication.

Primary School Science

This week saw our local primary school St. Joseph’s attend for their first week of science. Students thoroughly enjoyed themselves as they decked themselves out in surgical gloves, goggles and white coats. They conducted experiments to investigate the chemicals behind fireworks. Next week they look forward to cutting up sheep hearts and kidneys!
