Basketball

The second year team took on Colaiste Craobh Abhann Kilcoole in a thrilling encounter on Tuesday. The C.B.S. emerged victorious with 19 to 16 point win. C.B.S. got off to a great start with 4 points without Reilly in the first quarter with scores coming from Owen Byrne and Conor Gahan who took a quick break from his impressive defensive performance to score a well caught rebound. The second quarter was tougher with CCA scoring 7 points but the C.B.S. were able to hold onto a 1 point lead with scores coming from the cool uber pressure Wiktor Gajekwith who converted free throws and the ever busy Stephen O' Toole adding 2 points. In what proved to be the decisive third quarter CCA scored another 7 points but the C.B.S. boys put on an impressive attacking performance scoring 11 points. Scores came courtesy of Conor Gahan again, another free throw from Wiktor Gajek, 2 excellently taken scores from the ever skilful Niall O'Donovan who relished his more attacking role in that quarter, Kyle Kelly added two points as did the industrious and v hard working Owen Byrne. The final quarter saw only two points scored and they were for CCA so C.B.S. held on to win 19 16. Impressive debut performances from Conn Kinsella and shorter but valuable appearances from Daniel Byrne and Conor Hannon will definitely give Ms. Merrigan selection headaches for upcoming games!

On Tuesday the 5th our first years played against Colaiste Craobh Abhann Kilcoole. Unfortunately, on this occasion CCA proved to be to be superior with their shooting accuracy but despite that C.B.S. played well but were unable to convert their shots into points which was the difference. Cian Mcdonagh and Jake Molloy were able to get their names on the score sheet, and there were good performances from the ever energetic Jun Jie Huang and Aaron O’Brien while Patrick Shaw and Aaron Wolohan did well with their first appearances for the team. The next match against Colaiste Chill Mhantain will be next Monday. Thanks to Ms. Merrigan for all her hard work with the teams!

Mocks

This week saw our third and sixth year students start their mock exams. These exams are a very important part of the school year for our state examinations students. They not only provide important feedback to them in terms of their actual performance but also allow them to experience the actual conditions under which the state exams are ran.

Past Student Success

Well done to mechanical engineering student Liam Gregory who is currently attending DIT on winning the third annual Wallace family scholarship. The Wallace family scholarship aims to support committed students, like Liam who have not only demonstrated academic achievement but also engaged with the world of engineering outside of the classroom. Congratulations Liam and very well deserved.

Gaeltacht

Beatha teanga í a labhairt!

Students from 1st and 2nd year took their annual trip to the Gaeltacht from Wednesday to Friday this week. Having attended Colaiste na BhFiann in Rath Cairn last year this year they took the adventure to An Rinn in Waterford. Students attended classes in the mornings and various sports, games and activities throughout the afternoon and evenings. Students also had to chance to take part in a tour of the local area including a trip to a local crystal factory where they had the chance to see a crystal trophy being made and see a replica of the shamrock bowl that was gifted to the White house last year by the same factory. Well done to students for immersing themselves in the language and culture while forfeiting their modern technology. This trip is an annual one now in the school calendar and is one that the students really look forward to and thoroughly enjoy. Many many thanks to Ms. Cummins and Mr. Fanning for organising and accompanying the boys on this trip.
