Arklow CBS news for week ending 23rd October 2020

Message from Principal

As we approach half- term, I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank the whole school community of Arklow CBS. This has been a September and October like no other, but I have to say that the cooperation and compliance in the school environment from everyone has been nothing short of fantastic. I am extremely proud of how everyone has pulled together for the common good. I recognise that it hasn’t been an easy few months for you but we have made a fantastic start. I would also like to thank parents for their cooperation, patience and understanding. Ar scath a chéile a mhairimid. I hope you all have a safe lovely mid-term break .

Head Boy and Vice Head boy 2020/21

We are delighted to announce that the 6th Year School Head Boy is Ryan Kenny who will be ably assisted by his Vice Head Boy, Darren Gilhawley. Both students have shown great commitment to the school. The Head Boy and Vice Head Boy are expected to serve as role models to the student body, representatives of the school, and coordinators of student activities. While the roles are accompanied by a myriad of responsibilities, it also provides students with numerous opportunities for them in the future and demonstrates to future employees their ability to take responsibility and leadership. We wish both students every success in their roles.

Restorative Practice Training for Liaison Students

Our Liaison students had a Restorative Practice workshop with Ms. Kinsella this week. Restorative Practise is used successfully and effectively by many teachers here in Arklow CBS and is used as a core part of teacher-pupil engagement, behaviour management and conflict resolution in our school. The aim of this week’s workshop was to provide the students with the necessary communication tools which are key to restorative practice as they carry out their roles as liaison students. Well done to the students involved and of course to Ms.Kinsella for facilitating and organising the workshop.

CAREERS

CAO opens on November 5th so all students are encouraged to research potential career options for themselves over the midterm if they haven't already done so. www.careersportal.ie and www.qualifax.ie are two informative websites to use while investigating potential career paths.

1st Year and 2nd Year Acts of Kindness to residents in care facilities

We are now facing into a 6 week level 5 restrictions. As a school community we recognise and appreciate that this is a difficult time for everyone but especially those who are in care and residential homes where the residents can no longer receive visits from their friends and families.. Students from Ms. A Kinsella’s 1A class made cards and 2nd Year students from Ms.King’s life skills class wrote letters to residents in local care facilities. An Post are delivering cards and packages to nursing homes and residential homes free of charge until the end of January 2021.. We hope that the students beautiful cards and letters will help brighten up someone’s day. Well done boys and An Post. “Ar scáth a chéile a mhairimid”.

Transition Year Work Experience

It was the turn of TY B to go on work experience this week. Arklow CBS wishes to acknowledge the support we are receiving from our parents, local employers and the community with our work experience placements.

Transition year mini companies

TY’s are currently busy making products for their relevant mini companies. They have shown a lot of entrepreneurial skills. This year the different companies are all selling lovely items for Christmas. These would make some lovely Christmas presents for someone.

We could encourage parents to look at some of their business pages on Facebook or Instagram.

Some of the companies this year are

Crafty Christmas

Captn candles

Only fools and horseshoes

Magic lights
