5th Year and TY French tour to Paris
Last week saw some of our TY and 5th year students of French head off to Paris for a 4 day school tour.
It was a fun filled action packed few days which saw the students visit and experience the many beautiful sights that Paris has to offer including Sacre Coeur, Montmartre, Les Bateaux Mouches, L’Arc de Triomphe, Tour Montparnasse, an informative and enjoyable walking tour with Joe Walsh and of course a day in Euro Disney to name but a few. The students also got to practice loads of French, get to grips with the Metro system and taste some local cuisine including a visit to a crêperie on one of the evenings. The weather wasn’t the best, but it didn’t dampen our spirits. We certainly got our steps and laughs in!! Lots of good memories were made and a big thank you to Ms. King and Ms. E Kinsella for accompanying the students on what was a fantastic and hugely successful school tour.
Basketball success
The second year basketball team headed down to Wexford to play St. Peter's college in the first round of the second year plate competition. After a very competitive game the Arklow boys were able to travel back over the border with a win in hand after outsourcing their opponents 22 to 14.
The first quarter was cagey with the Arklow boys taking time to get their eye in on the basket and the lining of the court causing some confusion. While they played well they ended up behind 9 points to 6 with shoes coming from Sean Lawlor, Eamon Tiskevicius and David Little.
The second quarter showed the depth of the team. Roles dictate that there must be 5 players in the first quarter and a different 5 players in the second quarter. This allowed Arklow to make use of the strong squad and great attendance at training to completely outclass their opponents in this quarter by outscoring them 9 points to 2 with Victor Ivancia being particularly hard to handle for the opposition shooting 6 points. He was able assisted by Ashoka Gunawardona with 2 points from play and 1 from a free throw.
The third quarter continued the trend of Arklow dominance as the county Wicklow bits came out on top again with 7 points to St Peter's 1. Scorers were Tiskevicius, Cian Tunney, and Little with 2 points each and am additional free throw from the on form Ivancia.
The final quarter was a more pedestrian performance in terms of attack but was a relatively solid outing defensively. The CBS didn't score but only conceded 2 points to wrap up the victory.
Well done to MVP for the day Victor Ivancia.
Guest speaker from past pupil Éamon Breen
Past pupil Éamon Breen came in to school to talk to some of Ms. Mc Elheron’s classes about his recent achievement on rowing across the Atlantic with his brother Andrew in January. Andrew and Éamon came in 3rd place in the pairs competition. It was a thoroughly enjoyable and informative talk, and the students really enjoyed it.
Success at the Arklow Music Festival
Well done to TY student Jack Fleming McDermott on his success in the public speaking competition at the Arklow Music Festival.
