Arklow CBS School News For Week Ending 10th February 2023

Gaelic Football

First Year Footballers have that Friday Feeling!
It was a proud moment for Mr. Fanning and his first year Gaelic team last Friday afternoon as they played their last round-robin game. Eighteen men took on Coláiste Bhríde Carnew in the first year Gaelic football competition and came out on top with an impressive victory of 4-11 to 1-8. Mr. Fanning summarised that feeling when the final whistle blew by saying; ‘This is without doubt my proudest moment on the side-line for a CBS match, as every one of the lads fought for every ball and showed great skill and speed. A small school with small numbers makes no difference when our lads have such skill, and a sense of school spirit.’ They now await on the final group finishing places to find out who the next opposition will be. Well done to all involved!

First Year Soccer

Hard luck to our first-year soccer team on their defeat to Temple Carraig, Greystones last week. Straight off the bat our defence was split open by a blistering attack, but it didn’t stop there. By half time we were 3-0 down. In the second half, Arklow CBS looked promising, with a few shots just inches from the net. A gruesome challenge was put in within our box and the Temple Carrig striker punished us. Unfortunately, the first years couldn’t come back from 4-0. Our first year soccer team should be very proud of themselves and how far they have gotten in the league and shield this year. They will be fantastic assets to our u15 team next year. A special word of thanks to Harry McDonald, Eabhan Kinch, Darragh Kennedy and of course Ms. Rooney for their hard work and dedication to the team this year.

Safer Internet Day

Tuesday, 7th February was safer internet day 2023. To celebrate, we encouraged all members of our school community to think SMART when online. S-Safe; Keep your personal information safe. M- Meet: If someone that you only know online asks you to meet up, for personal information or for photographs report it. A-Accepting: Think carefully before you open or click on something online. R- Reliable: Not everything you see online is reliable. To check reliability, compare information on at least three different websites. T- Tell: Tell a trusted adult if something or someone makes you feel upset, worried or confused. Finally, we hope that everyone remembers to be SMART with a heart by being kind and respectful to others online.
