Basketball News

Arklow CBS won two out of three games against Creagh College last week.
In the first game the u19s took on Creagh A and it was very obvious that it was their first game of the season as they found themselves struggling to come to terms with a strong accurate opposition and unable to put scores on the board. As the boys warmed up they began to show what they were capable of running the Creagh team close in the remaining 3 quarters but they were unable to claw back scores from that first quarter. MVP for the first game was Jeddy Osuji with 12 points followed closely by Nazar Sykal with 10. Also contributing to the scores were Ryan Harper and Patrick Dickensian with 2 points each.In the second game the u16s were up. This proved to be the exact opposite of the u19 game with the CBS storming to a commanding lead in the first quarter which their opponents couldn't come close to matching. There were some excellent scores and team play throughout the game with the defensive performance especially encouraging given the lead they had gathered in the first quarter. MVP on the day was Nazar Sykal who was pulling double duty after an impressive performance with the u19s, he got himself 13 points followed closely by his brother Yehor with 10. Also contributing to the about sheet was Hugo Merino with 7, Tom Kavanagh with 4 and Javier Saez with yep from free throws.
The final game saw the u19s out again against the Creagh second team. This time the CBS got the biggest opportunity for players on the squad to put their hand up and show that they deserve some more game time. The boys who got their chances took them well and will have done the game chances of game time for the rest of the year no harm. MVP on this game was a closely contested affair with shots being very tight and spread among the players. Diarmuid O'Connor just edged it with 6 points but was chased all the way by Patrick Dickenson with 5, Jeddy Osuji and Cian Harper got 4 points each and Bobby Desmond was unlucky not to join them with a late lay up just bouncing off the rim leaving him with 2 points for the game.

On Thuesday 13th OctoberArklow CBS walked the short journey up to Glenart College and came away with a 79 to 20 win. It was a strong performance from the CBS with a very tight first quarter with scores hard to come by for both teams. It finished 12- 6 in favour of the CBS with some great drives and scores from Nazar Sykal helping the CBS stay ahead. The second quarter saw the CBS in the driving seat with a burst of scoring from Yehor Sykal giving the boys in blue a commanding lead on the score sheet and Hugo Merino, Sean O’Neill and Conn Keaney putting in a commanding defensive performance to keep the score against us to zero in that quarter. After half time it was up to the CBS to keep the score board ticking over and keep their concentration in defence to ensure a victory to get them one game closer to potentially qualifying from their group. It will take victory in the remaining two games to see the Arklow boys out into the playoffs. Today will build confidence in the team as they move through the group. MVP on the day was Yehor Sykal with 26 points followed by his brother Nazar with 11 and Hugo Merino with 10. Rounding out the scoring with 6 points each were Jeddy Osuji and Milosz Konkel. On 4 points each were Sean O’Neill, Ruzzel Degolado and Conn Keaney and contributing with a free throw was John Lamanga.

Soccer News

The soccer season officially kicked off in school this week with a superb start. Our u19s enjoyd a 5-0 win against Creagh College, Gorey in the first round of the Leinster cup. While or u15s had similar success kicking off their Leinster campaign with a 9-1 victory against CCM. The boys got off to the best start possible with a 9-1 win against CCM on a sunny Autumn day. Building on from a strong first year team last year that were unlucky to loose the league final with the addition of three of this years first years the team really were on fire and a joy to watch. The main talking point of the game was who scored the second goal. Was it a Kyal Byrne corner or did Aaron Kenna get a touch to it? Let’s hope it doesn’t come down to that goal deciding the golden boot later in the year!Goal Scorers today were:Darragh Kinch (3), Kyal Byrne (2), Lucas Reid, Odhrán Cullen, Kristian Dowling, Aaron Kenna. Those playing were: Peter Lappin, Jack Wolohan, Séan Plowman, Mark Gleason, Kristian Dowling, Aaron Kenna, Darragh Kinch, Odhran Cullen, Kyal Byrne, Lucas Reid, Kory Merrigan, Jack Killeen, Comghan Powell, Brendan Kenny, Séan Kelly, Evan Whelan, Dominic Swiergocki. Thanks to TY coaches Paul Moore and Ryan Scanlon for their expertise.
