South-East u16 Basketball League Champions!
Arklow CBS are u16 Southeast Champions after overcoming a very strong St Paul's CC side 41-28. It was a fantastic game of basketball played at speed and good spirits from both teams. The atmosphere was electric throughout the game with the CBS supporters acting like a sixth man on the court cheering on their team. The first quarter saw the CBS set out their stall and come out 15-12, Nazar Sykal scoring seven points and Yehor Sykal with six. St Paul's made life difficult for the CBS with two very well taken 3 pointers which meant there could be no lapses in concentration when they were playing the ball around the 3-point line. The second-quarter was a tighter affair with the CBS coming out on top 10- 9 in a ding-dong battle. Nazar contributed four points two of those coming from well-earned free throws. Javier Seaz and Hugo Merino linked well throughout the quarter and got a basket each. Ryan Morgan was rewarded for all his hard rebounding work with a basket also. The third quarter saw tired legs from both teams and resulted in St Paul's winning the quarter by a slim 7-6 margin, but the CBS had done enough work in the first quarter to maintain a lead on the main score board. With two points each, scorers in this quarter were Nazar Sykal, Yehor Sykal, and Sergiy Kulachenko. The final quarter was where the strength of the CBS squad came into play and the ability to rotate key players in earlier quarters meant that we were able to come out strongest at the end outscoring St Paul's 10-1. Scorers in the final quarter were Nazar Sykal and Ryan Morgan with four each and Carlos Manteca with two. All players played a vital party in this win with the defensive effort of every player beyond reproach. Arklow will now move onto the next round of the All-Ireland series. Hard luck to St. Paul's. CBS Team - Nazar Sykal, Yehor Sykal, Ryan Morgan, Tom Kavanagh, Sergiy Kulachenko, Hugo Merino, Javier Seaz, Ciaran Redmond, Sean O'Connor, Carlos Manteca, Shane Gregory, Josh Dodson Smith.

Gaelic Football

For the second time in a week the Arklow senior football team were in action. This time we made the trip up the N11 to take on Pres Bray in the Leinster schools senior football championship. Conditions were ideal as the teams took to the pitch on a crisp wintry day. The Arklow lads traded scores early on with a well drilled physically fit Pres team. Aaron O’Brien, Conn Kinsella, Eoin Moore & Paidí Kavanagh all chipping in with points. Aaron O’Brien looked particularly impressive after his romantic getaway to the capital!
It was Pres Bray who got the first goal of the game to put four between the sides.
However, it was Paidí Kavanagh who got a goal back for the CBS. Paidí resembled that Mayo magician of old, Ciaran McDonald with some of his dangerous runs. Things got even better for the CBS when man of the match Paul Moore bravely put his body on the line to race in and get another goal before the ref blew the halftime whistle. Paul was the third Moore brother to score a senior goal for Arklow CBS, a fact the late Jimmy Magee would be proud of. Bray hit back at the start of the second half with a goal and a point as the game descended into a ding-dong battle between two passionate sides. This was the third game of the week for some of the CBS lads and some of them (Sean McCarthy) had more miles on the clock than the Passat Mr. Cosgrove first rocked up to Arklow in. In a dramatic five-minute period that would not have been out of place in Qatar, Podge Birmingham coolly converted a penalty while Calum “Livaković” O’Neill saved a penalty for Arklow. Pres made one last gargantuan push for victory but Eoghan Ward, Oran Dunning, Sean McCarthy and Aaron Brien stood like Gandalf before the Balrog. As the final whistle blew on an epic tussle where both teams gave their all, the final score stood at Arklow CBS 3.7 Pres Bray 2.8.
