Arklow Rocks County Final Success

Congratulations to the Arklow Rocks’ u15 hurling team and in particular to all our students involved with their victory in the league final against Bray on Sunday. This group of players have had an unbelievable year, winning the championship, the league and representing Wicklow at the Féilie. The future of hurling is certainly bright in the town.

Careers News

Last Thursday saw Ms. Rooney host our 6th year parents for a very informative CAO information evening. Many thanks to those that attended and to Ms. Rooney for organising. On Tuesday last all interested Leaving Certificate students were invited to a talk by a guest speaker from UCD while on Thursday a guest speaker from Carlow College St. Patrick’s spoke to all interested prospective students.

Gaeilge 24

Ghlac thart ar dhaichead daltaí páirt sa dhushlán Gaeilge 24 ar an Máirt! Bhí ceol, craic, seisiùin HIIT, bia agus siúlóid timpeall an bhaile againn! Over forty students took part in the Gaeilge 24 challenge on Tuesday ! We had music, craic, a HIIT session, food and walk around the town all as Gaeilge! Mar a deir an seanfhocal: ‘Beatha teanga í a labhairt’ (The life of a language is to speak it!)

Christmas Shoe-box Appeal

This years Shoebox Appeal has been our best yet! We have had such an amazing response. A big thank you to all the staff, and especially to the many students and their families who created the wonderful gift-filled shoeboxes. These boxes were collected from our school on Thursday and will then start their journey to Dublin, then onto Europe and Africa and finally into the arms of a child this Christmas! Thank you for your support and generosity in helping to bring the spirit of Christmas to many children across the world!

Basketball News

Our u16 team have booked their place in the South East D semi-final, after being FCJ Bunclody in the quarter final 40-18. It was a superb performance from the Arklow boys with twins Nazar and Yehor Sykal finishing with 30 points between them, while Ryan Morgan can be credited for keeping FCJ quite by having a commanding defensive performance with multiple blocks and an uncountable number of rebounds. We await other results to see who we will have in the semi final. MVP on the day Nazar Sykal with 20 points followed by Yehor with 10. Ciaran Redmond, Hugo Merino, Carlos Manteca, Shane Gregory, and Tom Kavanagh rounded out the scoring with 2 points each.

Rugby News

Our senior rugby team played their second round game in the Anne McInerney Cup on Thursday as they aim to go one better on their Leinster Final Appearance last year. All went according to plan as the game against Clonkeen College, Dublin finished 17-0 in Arklow’s favour.

Gaelic Football News

Our senior Gaelic Footballers had their first outing of the year against Creagh College in Gorey on Friday. In blustery conditions the Arklow lads made the most of the wind on the first half with Sean O'Neil & Conn Kinsella chipping in with a few goals. Creagh ensured a competitive game throughout and made the most of the wind in the second half. It wasn't until man of the match Conn Keaney came off the bench in the second half and got himself a brace of goals that we could finally relax. This was a great team performance from the CBS lads.

Also, well done to our P.E teacher Ms. Merrigan and SNA Elaine on their League final victory with their club Kilanerin Ladies Gaelic Football Club at the weekend.

Rainbow Jumper Day On Friday we had a Rainbow Jumper day as part of Stand Up Awareness week. All students were encouraged to choose a colour of the rainbow and wear that colour into school. Stand Up Awareness Week is an annual campaign run by Belong To, which gives second-level schools, Youthreach, and youth services the opportunity to celebrate and recognise their LGBTQ+ community. It is a time when we show solidarity with young people and our colleagues to ensure they feel seen, heard, and safe, and to ensure everyone knows that biphobic, homophobic, and transphobic language and bullying will not be tolerated.

Transition Year News

This week TYB continued working very hard on their project for Arklow Tidy Towns. They planted, swept, cleaned, edged and cut briars further up St. John’s SNS lane. And if nearly two hours of hard work wasn’t enough the class helped to sweep up the leaves beside the school off the footpath. Well done to all on the great work.

Transition Year students also enjoyed an extremely interesting talk on gambling with Tony O’ Reilly during the week. Tony is an experienced Addiction Counsellor who specialises in Gambling Addiction.
