Mid-term Break at Arklow CBS

Wishing all our students, parents and staff a safe, well-deserved mid- term break and to thank you all for your continued cooperation and support. ”Ar scátha chéile a mhairimid” . We are looking forward to welcoming everybody back to school on November 1st. Happy Halloween everyone.

Máirtín Ó Griallais

It is with a heavy heart that we learned of the untimely death of our dear colleague Máirtín Ó Griallais. Máirtín taught woodwork and T.G here at Arklow CBS and was a respected and admired teacher and mentor to our students. Máirtín was laid to rest last week and representatives of the school community, including members of staff as well as students past and present were in attendance at his funeral to pay their respects. The school flags were flown at half-mast. The school community would like to offer their condolences to Máirtín’s wife, children and family at this very sad time. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dilís.

Bhí muintir na scoile croíbhriste nuair a chualamar go raibh ár gcara agus múinteoir adhmadóireachta agus líníocht theicniúil imithe ar shlí na firinne. Ba mhúinteoir den scoth é agus bhí ard mheas ag chuile dhuine air. Cuireadh Máirtín an tseachtain seo caite agus bhí muintir na scoile i láthair chun ár n-ómós a thabairt dó. Comhbhrón ó chroí dá bhean chéile, a ghasúir agus a chlann uilig. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dilís.

Careers News

Last Monday, Arklow CBS welcomed a guest speaker visit from Maynooth University to speak to the 6th year students about the university and the 38 degrees they currently offer. The university is ranked joint first in Ireland for quality of education and offers great choice and flexibility with subjects. Maynooth University has 12,000 undergraduate students in total. There is a new Wexford bus route that goes from Gorey to Maynooth University, so commuting is now an option for our students. 1,200 students live on campus, 600 of those places are reserved for 1st year students only.

Open Days are on 26th and 27th November. Any students interested in studying in Maynooth University, please look up further details on their website.

Maths Week

Arklow CBS celebrated Maths Week this week. Many activities were organised for students including a “Quiz Off” between the 1st year classes where Ms. Domican’s class 1C emerged victorious.

The Irish Teachers ran some maths quizzes as Gaeilge for 1st years also. It’s great to see other departments getting involved. All in all a very enjoyable and educational week of maths was had by all. A big thank you to the Maths Department for organising.
