Junior hurling news

Junior Hurling Team.gif

Our junior hurling team came up just short against Coláiste Eoin Hacketstown in the Leinster shield semi-final on Tuesday the 21st. The pitch was in poor condition following the recent rain and this made the going extremely tough for both teams. Arklow CBS led by two points going in at the break in what was an energy sapping and physical encounter. The second half got off to a poor start with Arklow CBS conceding a goal and giving Hacketstown a sense of belief. Our boys fought back well and led by two points after a flurry of scores. The sporting gods must have been looking down on Hacketstown as they were awarded a goal that the Arklow boys swear came through the bottom of the net from the side of the goals. This is what separated the teams in the end but in truth, after this Hacketstown were in control and we were chasing the game. The boys can be extremely proud of themselves and how hard they worked for the full game. It's fair to say hurling is alive and well in Wicklow and in Arklow CBS. Well done to all involved and to Mr. Kearney.

Golf news

Well done to our school golfers who participated in an Arklow inter-schools competition at @arklowlinks today. Six students teed off representing Arklow CBS; Ross Doyle Roche, Aaron Reddin, Oran O’Sullivan, Kyal Byrne, Evan Whelan and Riain Dunning. Congratulations to Aaron Reddin on placing. It was a great to see some of our beginners try their best out there, they have a bright golfing future ahead!

Basketball success

Senior Basketball.jpg

Arklow CBS have progressed to the regional senior final after an impressive away victory over CBS New Ross on a score line of 51 to 24.

It was a cagey first quarter with both teams scoring tit for tat until the final two minutes when the Arrow boys were able to pull ahead thanks to some good individual play from Jeddy Osuji, and a well executed set play finished off by Ryan Morgan.

The second quarter saw the Arklow side assert their dominance in a quarter where Tom Kavanagh stepped up and took responsibility scoring 8 of the teams 14 points in the quarter. Arklow finished the quarter up 27 to 13 and it was a lead that would not be relinquished.

The third quarter was notable for two well worked 3 pointers from Jeddy Osuji and some good team play across the whole squad.

The final quarter was all about closing out the game and ensuring passage through to the semi finals.

Scorers on the day were MVP Jeddy Osuji who was unstoppable when he was on the court scoring 21 points. He was joined on the scoresheet by Tom Kavanagh with 8 points, Ruzzel Degolado and Ryan Morgan with 6, Daniel O'Donovan, Shane Gregory, John Lamanga, Sean O'Connor and Ben Manning ruined out the scoring with 2 points each. The range of scorers showing the talent among the team, but the contributions of those who weren't on the score sheet cannot be discounted either with good performances from Sergei Kulachenko, Adam O'Leary, Josh Dodson Smith and Ben Zhou.

We await word on our next opponents, and the team is itching to get back to training to see how far they can progress.

Senior Gaelic Football

Our Senior Gaelic Football team took on CCA in Pearse Park last week. The teams finished up level on a score of 2.8 to 2.8. in what was an enthralling game of end-to-end football. Please find below the match report.

Match report

Match report
Arklow CBS 2.8 CCA 2.8
It was another epic encounter as Arklow CBS took on CCA in Pearce park on Friday morning.
Arklow started well scoring two quick points, the second of which coming from a sublime move started by Mikey Kinsella in his own corner and ending with Pa Shaw kicking a fabulous point on the turn.
However CCA hit back with a goal and two points. Eoghan Ward stood firm as CCA put pressure on the Arklow goal.
CBS trailed at half time but Teirnan Gahen turned on the style in the second half as CBS upped their game significantly.
The terrible twosome of Aaron O Brien and Jack Mullen began to get the upper hand in midfield.
Paul Moore sprang free from the bench like Houdini for the final twenty minutes and his introduction was the catalyst for a strong CBS finish.
The introduction of the power house Killian Brehony further put CCA on the back foot. To witness the power of this young man was like looking at Damo Comer in Pearce stadium on Connacht final day.
Arklow showed their class in the final moments when Kristian Dowling played a sublime ball towards Sean O Neil who leapt like a grasshopper to fist the ball into the net to put the CBS lads ahead by one.
A free in the dying seconds levelled it up for CCA as the teams finished up all level 2.8 - 2.8.

Let’s Get Rowing in Arklow CBS.

Some of our year groups are taking part in the “Let's get rowing program” during PE classes . This is an initiative from Rowing Ireland where a coach from Rowing Ireland comes into the school and supplies us with rowing machines for a 4 week program. Its proving to be very popular and an enjoyable experience for all involved.

1st Year Geography Field Trip

All our First Year students enjoyed a Geography field trip to Roadstone Arklow this week. The students have been studying rocks and how humans exploit rocks through quarrying so this trip really brought the classroom to life. It was an invaluable educational experience and Arklow CBS would like to thank Alan Geraghty and Petere Farrell for an excellent and enjoyable tour. Thanks to the Geography Dept. for organising.
