Senior Gaelic Football Team March on to South-Leinster Final!

Arklow CBS:5-5 CCA:2-9

Sport has seen some great rivalries over the years Frazier vs Ali, Federer vs Nadal, Celtics vs Lakers. There’s a new rivalry to add to the list which will exhilarate GAA fans, Arklow CBS vs Colaiste Craobh Abhainn. Having played in an epic match just at the back end of 2022, both teams left everything on the pitch in this second encounter.
They say lightning doesn’t strike twice and I certainly hope it doesn’t as my house was struck by lightning the night Liverpool clinched the premier league! There was a repeat of the scoreline from the match in 2022 with Arklow CBS coming out on top 5-5 to 2-9. Both teams should be proud of their passionate and competitive performance which was a joy to watch. The Arklow lads were a bit slow out of the traps as they conceded two early points but Páidí Kavanagh settled any early nerves popping the ball between the posts.Things got even better for Arklow as Tiernan Gahan ghosted in to put the ball in the net. Things were to get even better for the CBS as Sean McCarthy reminiscent of the Offaly great Seamus Darby put the ball in the net to put Arklow even further ahead. But CCA were not finished and they showed great character to claw their way back to within 2 points. Ryan Scanlon was immense as he put in a man of the match performance breaking the lines again and again. If Mayo are looking for a replacement for Lee Keegan then here is the answer. The two Jacks; Flusk and Mullen proved a handful throughout the game as they covered every blade of grass. Our very own Seamus Darby Sean McCarthy remarkably scored a second goal as the first half drew to a close. The contest rumbled on in the second half as both teams went point for point. It was an exceptional Páidí Kavanagh goal that eventually put the game to bed. Adam Lifely put the icing on the cake by slotting the ball over the bar with the final kick of the game. Adam's point put him in the history books as the youngest scorer for an Arklow CBS senior team. Let’s hope word of this Gaelic el-Classico and the stars of the future makes its way back to Oisín McConville and his back-room staff. Match report by Mr. Cosgrove.

Catholic Schools Week 2023

This week we celebrated Catholic Schools Week 2023. The theme for Catholic Schools Week this year is Catholic Schools :Walking Together in Faith and Love. Our Catholic school is a place where we learn to have faith in ourselves, in each other and in God. May we learn to have hearts of compassion, trust and love in everything we do, as we journey together in faith. This week, we pray that God helps us to live like he has taught us to.

Summer Gaeltacht Courses

We would like to encourage all pupils taking Irish for both the Junior and Leaving Certificates to attend the Gaeltacht as regularly as possible during the summer holidays. This is the only opportunity for 5th years/2nd Years to attend the Gaeltacht during the summer before their Leaving Certificate/Junior Cycle in 2024. While there are many excellent Gaeltachts available some Gaeltachts’ that previous Arklow CBS students have attended can be viewed on our school website, social media pages and in the letter sne home with students this week. We understand that this is a significant investment. In order to assist parents with the cost the school has set up a savings club to enable students to save towards the cost of the Gaeltacht visit. A number of parents have expressed interest in this but would like to know if any other students are going within the school. Please contact other parents you know directly. To book your place go directly to the contact details provided. Should you require additional information please do not hesitate to contact the Irish Department on the school number.
