Arklow CBS news for week ending 26.11.21
Athletics News
Well done to everyone who competed at the Wicklow Schools Invitational Athletics Cross Country run at Avondale Forest Park on Thursday. Cold weather and steep inclines did not deter our Athletes today as every one of the lads completed this tough cross country run.
Massive congratulations to Owen Gibbons for finishing in second place in the Second Year Race. Owen stayed in front for the entire race as he competed against other experienced athletes like himself from several other Wicklow Schools.
Owen has shown great dedication to his athletics training each week, and his medal is well deserved.
Athletics Training takes place at Arklow CBS each Thursday from 4pm to 5pm. Athletes of all levels and experience are welcome.
A big thank you to Mr. O’Gorman for all his time and effort with our athletes.
Positive Affirmation Committee
This week we had a number of junior students recommended to PAC for meeting milestones on their merit sheets. Well done to each of them as they continue to display excellent behaviour and positive contribution to the school community.

2nd Year Gaelic Football success
CBS Arklow 4.9 Baltinglass 1.6
The CBS second year Gaelic football team won their second round in the south Leinster championship yesterday Tuesday with a hard fought win away to Baltinglass
Baltinglass were much the stronger in early exchanges with the CBS defence really struggling with the power and pace of the Baltinglass forwards. The positioning of man of the match Brendan Kenny to centre back proved to be the catalyst for success. The defence started to play as a unit with Sé Killoran prominent at full back Slowly our forwards began to find the spaces with full forward Adam Lifely proving a real handful scoring 1-2 with Ryan Redmond, Kian Scanlan and Jack Keogh Taping over points. At half time the CBS lead 1-6 to 4 points.
The lads hit their purple patch in the 3rd quarter as their running game improved. Lifely found himself on the end of good runs by Scanlan and Redmond scoring another 2 goals and Jack Keogh continued his accuracy ending the day with 5 points from play . Well taken goals from the prominent Scanlan and Redmond as well as Cormac O Donoghue scoring an impressive 1-1 put the CBS in a prominent position which they never led slip.
Senior Gaelic Football
Our seniors took to the field in the first round of the Leinster Championship against Colaiste Chraobh Abhann on Tuesday. It was a first outing for the senior team and our new kit. CBS were slow out of the blocks and were down by 9 points midway through the first half, but they rallied with goals from Stephen O'Toole and Conor Gahan to leave 2 points in it at half time.
Despite a spirited display from the CBS lads in the second half Colaiste Chraobh Abhann prevailed in a pulsating game with the final score 3- 5 to 3 - 9.
