School news for week ending 07.05.2021
TY Cross Country Running
Last Tuesday saw the first training session of the TY cross country Running club. Transition years accompanied by Ms. White completed a 7km run out into Glenart Woods and back to school. Students thoroughly enjoyed the training session and are already looking forward to school racing starting back next year, by which time their fitness should be excellent!! Training will continue every Tuesday until the end of the school year.
TY Hike up Croghan Mountain
Last Friday saw TY students hike to the peak of Croghan Mountain accompanied by Ms. White, Elaine and Ms. Garvey. It was a tough 4km climb to the summit, but everyone completed it. Students then got to relax and appreciate the view and eat their picnic lunch! Some students took photographs whilst the more energetic students set off running across the peak trails! A great day was had by all and it is hoped that another mountain climb can be arranged before the end of the school year.
Over €800 raised for No Uniform and Tuck Shop Day in aid of Never Give Up (Irish Cancer Society & Arklow Cancer Support)
Last Thursday a no uniform and tuck shop day was arranged by Ms. White in aid of the Never Give Up charity. This charity raises funds for the Irish Cancer Society and Arklow Cancer Support. Many thanks to the class tutors for helping to collect the money and to some TY students who helped man the tuck shops in the different yard zones. Many many thanks also to parents and students who supported this really worthy cause. So far we have raised just over €800 but we still have some money to count! This is a fantastic amount and we are all delighted with the success of the day!
Blessed Edmund Rice Feast Day
This week at Arklow CBS we celebrated the Feast Day of Blessed Edmund Rice. The Prayer of Blessed Edmund Rice was read to the school over the intercom by Aaron Byrne and Students also took part in creating presentations on the Life of Blessed Edmund Rice in celebration of his Feast day.
