6th Year Parent teacher meeting

Unfortunately for obvious reasons we are unable to hold our 6th Year parent teacher meetings in the format that we would have traditionally used pre Covid. Arklow CBS will therefore hold our 6th Year Parent teacher meetings on line via Microsoft Teams on Wednesday November 17th.

Each student will be asked to use their 365 School account to answer a Microsoft Teams call at a specific time from each teacher in each subject. Parent(s)/Guardian(s) will be asked to sit in at home with your son in these Teams meetings. To facilitate this plan a certain set of guidelines and procedures are necessary. Thes procedures can be viewed on the school website.

We would urge all parents to log on for this important meeting at their allocated time. The parent teacher meeting is an opportunity to find out how your son is progressing in 6th Year.

  • The meetings will start @16:10 on Wednesday the 17th November 2021 and all classes will finish at 15:10 to allow the students return home and get ready for the meeting.
  • Students will be provided with a schedule of meetings on Monday 15th November 2021.

We would like to thank parents for their continued understanding and support.

Rugby Blitz

Our junior students competed in the Leinster Schools Junior Cup qualifying blitz. After six high intensity games Arklow CBS managed to win 4 from 6. There were stand out performances from Eoghan Ward and Adam Lifely and heroic showings from some of our first years against more senior opposition but the Man of the Match(s) went to Mikey Kinsella who showed an incredible work rate scoring eight tries in total and making phenomenal ground with both his physicality and his nimble footwork. Well done to the entire squad.

Gaeilge 24

Bhí lá iontach ag ár ndaltaí ar an Máirt an 10ú Samhain. Glacaimid pairt i hGaeilge 24. Fuair na daltai a gcuid tléinte agus bhí seisiún HIIT againn ar maidin. Bhí borgairí, milseáin agus cluichí ag am lóin. Bhí siúlóid an spéisiúil again san iarnóin. Chuamar timpeall an bhaile ag cuardach focail Gaeilge. Bhí an aimsir go deas agus bhí an chraic ag na daltaí. Tá Gaeilge ar fud na háite. Go raibh mile maith agat as Roinn na Gaeilge agus go háirithe Iníon Ní Chuimím a d’eagraigh an lá.

The students had a great day on Tuesday November 10th when we celebrated Gaeilge 24. A challenge to speak Irish for 24 hours. The day startrd off with an exercise and a HITT session. There was burgers, sweets and games at lunch time. The students finished of the day with a walking toyr of the town searching for Irish words. The students were amazed at the amount of Irish words that are all around us. A fantastic day was had by all. Thank yu to the Irish dept and especially to Ms. Cummins for organising the day.

Senior soccer

Arklow CBS V Coláiste Chill Mhantáin

This Wednesday saw the return of senior soccer to Arklow CBS after a 1 and half year hiatus. Their first game was certainly one for the neutral. In a game that ebbed and flowed from end to end, the CBS grabbed a draw in a game many at half time would have thought was out of their reach. The 10:30 kick off started well for the travelling Colaiste Chill Mhantain who bagged two early goals from long through balls over the top. The CBS boys were shell shocked for a small period time but began to get themselves back into the game after some good work from captain Ben Somers, Sam Butler and Ian Hidalgo in midfield. The team reacted well in time to the concession of these early goals and responded with a goal of their own around the 30-minute mark taken brilliantly by Ben who lifted the ball over Sam Kelly in the CCM goal with the assist coming from Sam Butler. The celebration from this goal was shorted lived however as the CBS men conceded from a set piece late in the first half. At half time after a player led discussion the CBS men decided there was plenty left in this game for them with Arklow making one change at the break bringing in speed merchant Niall Dempsey up front. This turned out to be very true as the CBS men took much more control of possession in the second half. This possession was rewarded by a superbly taken goal by Ben Somers from 35 yards. Once this goal had gone in you could see that all 11 players knew that a draw or win was there for the taking. Two further changes were made due to injuries early in the second half which led to both Aaron O’Brien and Conn Kinsella coming in. Arklow finally drew level with a superbly taken goal by Paidi Kavanagh after great work in midfield. The CBS men really had showed their grit and determination to drag themselves back into the game. Indeed, they were unlucky not to go ahead after another Paidi Kavanagh finish was ruled offside by the smallest of margins. The game ended with chances for both teams, but neither could get the elusive winning goal. A draw probably was a fair result and the CBS men now need to get a result against Kilcoole in the last group game.

U 19 basketball match V Gaelcholáiste na Mara

Well done to the CBS u19 Boys Basketball team who came out the best in the local derby against Gaelcholaiste na Mara 60 points to 38. It was a well deserved win from the CBS who were a bit more experienced than an up and coming Gaelcholaiste side. Tadhg Powell was the MVP of the day with a fantastic 20 points scored and numerous assists. This was the first game for the u19s and it was great to see the beginnings of the interplay between the players. The starting team of Tadhg Powell, Craig Caulfield, Ben Somers, Niall O’Donovan and Patrick Dickenson took control in the first quarter and ran up a score of 16 points to 4. It was a case of keeping the score difference the same in the second quarter when the half time whistle went it was 25 13. The CBS extended their lead in the third quarter to 41 points to 25, and a strong final quarter left the result in no doubt. Apart from MVP Powell other contributors to the scoreboard on the day were Patrick Dickenson with 6 points, Niall O’donovan with 11, Conor Kiernan with 3, Craig Caulfield with 10, Ruzzel Degolado, Ben Somers, Cian Harper, Tony Xu and Sam Hampson with 2 points each. CBS team on the day was Tadhg Powell, Niall O’Donovan, Ben Somers, Craig Caulfield, Patrick Dickenson, Ruzzel Degolado, Conor Kiernan, Sam Hampson, Ryan Harper, Cian Harper, Tony Xu, Dylan Hayden, Julius Pawlak and Conor McElheron.
