School News Arklow CBS Week ended 12 October 2018
TY AXA Roadshow
Monday last saw our TY students attend the Annual AXA Roadshow in the Royal Marine Hotel, Dunlaoghaire. Here students listened to talks from Vincents’ Hospital, the Fire Service and Garda Siochana where they were taken in graphic detail through all stages of an accident. Students also heard first hand a tragic story from a parent who lost his teenage daughter to a traffic accident. The message to students on the day was to slow down and always wear your seat belt. Thanks to MS. Garvey for organising and also to Pauline for accompanying.
TY Driving School
Tuesday last saw our TY students attend a driving school, Leinster Driving Campus in Maynooth. This is an annual event in the TY calendar and is extremely popular with the students. Two hours were spent in a driving classroom where they learn principles of safe driving, stopping distances and also prepare for their Theory Test. Students get to wear special goggles which gives them a simulation of what it is like to drink drive. Then they spend two hours actually driving a real car around the campus. This is a really enjoyable beneficial day for the students. Thanks to MS. Garvey for organising and also to Pauline for accompanying.
TY Autism collection
This Thursday and Friday saw some of our TY students collect for the Irish Society for Autism. Students gave of their time freely to sell roses and other items for this very worthy cause. As yet a figure is not available as to how much they raised but we would like to thank the people of Arklow for their support. Many thanks to Pauline also for all her help.

3rd Year Mosque Visit
This Wednesday saw all our 3rd Year students go to Dublin to visit a mosque. This is an annual event in the 3rd Year calendar and allows students to experience first hand the place of worship of a religion other than their own. It is a valuable learning activity for them. Students also visited the Natural History Museum and thoroughly enjoyed this. Thanks to Mr. O’Gorman, Mr. Fanning, Majella and Ms. Stafford for accompanying the students.
*will text you on details*
TY Sports Blitz
Thursday saw our TY students off to yet another activity. They headed to Arklow Sports Centre to participate in a multi sports blitz as part of Arklow Mental health Week. Alongside the sporting activities students had a talk on the links between sport and positive mental health and also received a demonstration on health eating. Students thoroughly enjoyed this event despite the early finish due to torrential rain. Many thanks to Ms. Merrigan for organising.
Arklow Mental Health Week
This annual event is now a valuable, important and integral part of our school calendar and students from 1st to 6th Year participate in a huge range of activities designed to make them aware of the importance of looking after their mental health. Students thoroughly enjoyed all the talks, workshops and activities the participated in. Man thanks to Arklow Mental Health committee for involving us again and we look forward to next year’s events.
