Arklow C.B.S. School news week ended 26th October 2018

Non-uniform day

Our non-uniform day last Friday was a huge success and we raised €600. This was split evenly between the three charities Wicklow Hospice, Wicklow Cancer Support and Arklow Cancer Support. A cake sale is planned for after the mid-term break in support of these wonderful charities, keep an eye on our Facebook page for further updates.

Rose week collection

Well done to our Transition Year students who collected for the Irish Society for Autism last week in the Bridgewater Shopping Centre. They raised €250. Many thanks to Pauline for all her help.

Pre-Mock exams

This week saw our Third and Sixth Year students engaged in their pre-mock exams. These exams are an integral and important part of the school year for our State Examinations students and gives them a good guide as to where they are with their studies.

TY Work Experience

Our Transition Year students are off on their first week of work experience this week. These work placements are a very important part of the TY programme and give students a good idea of what it is like in the world of work. It also serves to give students an idea of where they might like to head on their future career path. The TY Core Planning Team of Arklow C.B.S. would like to express their gratitude and appreciation to those employers who offer our students a placement.

Sixth Year Mock Language Orals

Our language departments were extremely busy this week as teachers conducted Mock Orals with the senior students. The orals were conducted in the same way as the State Examinations orals and so gave students a great experience which will certainly benefit them.

First Year Hurling Blitz

Wednesday was a good day out with our first year students at the super 7s hurling blitz in Ballinakill GAA grounds. We played 2 games in a group but unfortunately we lost the first one to St. Kevin's CC.  We came back stronger to beat Avondale CC in the next match.  We saw some excellent all round performances by the lads and some great scores taken by Darragh O’ Connor. Well done lads and thanks to Mr. Regan for accompanying the team!

Spooktacular Poetry in Arklow C.B.S.

Students and staff celebrated the Scary Season with a Halloween Poetry and Art Competition – Our First Year students took part in the competition which was organised by the English, Art, Music and Special Education Departments. Ms. White our Deputy Principal presented the prizes of mini Halloween Hampers to the winning students -  Conor Mc Donald for the best poem about Halloween and Mikolaj Bobro who won first prize in the Halloween Poster Competition.

First Years then had a surprise party organised by the SNA staff of Pauline, Majella, Marie and Elaine.  We would like to thank the following for all the help: Mr. Somers, Ms. White (Organisation).  The Judging Panel: Mr. Ryan, Mr. Collins, Ms. Rooney, Ms. Byrne, Ms. Stafford (English Department). Ms. Charlton (Art Dept), Ms. Lee (Music Dept).  Then Mr. O’ Gorman, Ms. Toomey and Mr. Lally for their assistance with supervision and also our SNA team for making up the hampers and serving the food.
