Third Year Retreat
This Friday saw all our Third Year students participate in their annual retreat. This year’s it is hosted by Conexus Educate Retreats. The emphasis of the day was on building and strengthening friendships with classmates. The students had a really great day with them all participating in teambuilding and team work activities through fun & games. Our annual retreat day is an integral; part of the school calendar and also an extremely valuable one and provides a day out from study where the students can interact with each other in a relaxed and fun environment. Many thanks to Mr. O’ Gorman for organising and to Pauline for supervising.
Our under 16 team were very successful and beat St. David's 42 - 41. It was an exceptionally tight game with little separating the teams throughout. With 17 seconds to go Arklow were down by 4 points and won 2 free Throws. Tadhg Powell - cool as ever under pressure connected both to leave Arklow only 2 down. Arklow pressed high for the St. David's restart and Eric Wynne won the ball and another 2 free throws with 10 seconds left on the clock. Eric converted his first but missed his second where the rebound fell to Airian Farina Hernandez who netted a lay up to give Arklow the win and hopefully advance into the Leinster regional knockout stage.
Our under 19 team was not so successful when playing against St. David's as they lost 30 - 29 in another very close game. Coming into the last minute Arklow were down by six and a lay up by John Smullen and a three pointer from Cian Cooney brought the team back to within one point, and despite the determined efforts of all 5 players on the court to win the ball back Arklow failed to find the net. It will be a nervous wait on other results to see if the boys advance to the next round or not. Well done to all. Thanks again to Ms. Merrigan for all her hard work!
Arklow C.B.S. played Wexford C.B.S. on Tuesday last in the FAI schools Leinster Senior Cup first round. Unfortunately, our team lost 5-1 in absolutely horrible conditions. Our lads were unlucky in the match as a few balls hit the post and our goal came before half time with Liam Moore scoring from a free kick. Thanks to the manager Mr. Collins and to Conor Blaney for this write up!
TY Movie School
Yet again our TY students were busy engaging in another fun activity! This time they participated in a two day Movie Maker workshop. Students had to work together to script, rehearse, shoot and edit their ideas to create a finished film. Students worked closely in groups with experienced tutors from Createschool. They learned skills and techniques that they can continue to develop after the workshop in order to make films with their own mobile technology. Students had a thoroughly enjoyable time and we look forward to viewing the finished movies! Thanks to Ms. Levingstone for organsing!
40 plus 6th Year Geographers visited Kippure Estate and carried out their Geographical Investigation for their Leaving Certificate Geography Project on Wednesday 7th Nov. Despite a very bad weather forecast, only a couple of swimmers got wet! All students participated really well and gathered valuable data. It was a very successful field trip. Best of luck with writing the project up now! Thanks to Ms. Merrigan and Ms. Kinsella for organising and to Pauline for accompanying them too.
Beidh Gaeilge 24 (speak Irish for a day) ar siúl sa scoil ar an Máirt (13/11/18). Many students have gained sponsorship for this. Photos will be posted soon. Go n-éirí libh. Ná déan dearmad - Is fearr Gaeilge briste ná Béarla cliste!
