1st Gaelic Football
The Ist year Gaelic Team Played Colaise Bhrid on Monday afternoon in Pearse Park. The successful run came to end losing out to a strong Carnew side. The Carnew boys controlled the game for the first half and when well ahead. However the CBS boys fought back well in the second half but unfortunately could not match their first half scoring and were unlucky being denied by the crossbar and the goal post. We wish Coláiste Bhríd the best of luck in the final.
Junior Gaelic Football
Our junior Gaelic Team's run has also came to an end as they too were well beaten by Coláiste Bhríd on Friday afternoon in Carnew. We wish them the west of luck in the next round.
Rugby
Our first rugby team has their first outing on wednesday30th march in Gorey Rugby Club where they took part in a blitz wining 3 and drawing two games.
Wicklow Schools Invitational Athletics
Thursday 31st March saw a group of 25 Arklow CBS students participate in the annual Wicklow Schools Invitational Track and field event in Greystones. As usual our boys did really well, with our Under 15 Tug of War team taking silver medals, the team comprised of Lestor Carroll, Oisin redmond, Krystian Karwat, Christian Cobalido and harry Walker. Jamie Cullen our star athlete and member of the Irish squad ran easily through the 100m and 800m heats taking gold in both events. All participating students had a wonderful day.
Transition Year simulated driving workshop.
Friday 1st April saw 6 of our Transition Year students participate in a simulated driving workshop with a new company called Simdrive. The boys each got to sit into their own 'car' and were surrounded by flat screen televisions simulating the whole driving experience. The boys had a great time and got to drive at speeds that would normally earn them masses of penalty points on the open roads!
Transition Year Tour
Tuesday 30th March saw a group of Transition Year students visit the Chocolate garden and factory in Tullow Co. Carlow. Here they got to listen to a very informative talk on the origins of chocolate and got to sample various chocolate sweets made by the factory. The highlight of the factory visit was the workshop where each student got to make and keep (and of course eat!) his own chocolate rabbit!
In the afternoon the students visited Woodlands Falconry, this proved to be the most marvellous experience for the students as they got to handle many many varieties of birds of prey, eagles, hawks and owls. The highlight of the afternoon was where students were brought to the purpose built flying arena and each was allowed to fly a Harris hawk. The boys thoroughly enjoyed this trip and indeed many plan on returning to the falconry centre with their families!
Third year visit to Ash animal sanctuary
Recently a group of third year CSPE students visited Ash Animal Sanctuary in West Wicklow with Teacher Mr. Collins. Here they got to walk around the sanctuary and to see the many many abandoned animals taken in by the rescue. They were told of the excellent but difficult work done by ASH also. Students brought with them bags of shredded paper which ASH use to bed down the dogs. Students had an enjoyable and informative trip and will use the information gained as part of their CSPE junior cert projects.
