Sports Practice
Paul Sheridan, a professional football coach, is conducting an eight week course on sports practice with our Transition Year students. There will be theory and practical skills training, all of which will greatly benefit those interested in a future career in sports management.
Careers
Fifth year students recently enjoyed a trip to a careers exhibition in the RDS, Dublin. Hundreds of universities and colleges and exciting career talks gave our students a lot to think about! Grainne O Shea, from Teagasc, spoke to students on the variety of possibilities and opportunities for aspiring farmers and horticulturists. Richard Murphy, admissions officer at Griffith College gave a lively and interesting presentation to the Fifth years on the various courses and scholarships available. Ross Munnelly, a famous footballer and liaison officer for DCU gave a talk on his college and the various courses on offer there whilst also outlining the fantastic sports facilities on offer.
Gaisce Challenge
This years Transition Year students have embarked on their Gaisce challenge, with 15 students seeking to obtain the bronze award. Thanks to Ms. Seery for organizing this.
Youth Consultation Day
Seven CBS students-John O Halloran, Liam Lynch, Adrain Whelan, Gerard Douglas, Derek Allen, Cian Jameson and Jack Donoghue participated in a youth consultation day, held in Laragh and organised by Wicklow Co. Council. Essentially it was a discussion day for young people where they could vote on members joining a young people's Dail. All seven students found the day extremely rewarding and informative.
Gaelic training
Some of our students are attending weekly training sessions at Pearse Park, Arklow along side students from Arklow community college and the Gael Colaiste, with the aim of creating a combined team for the Leinster schools competion.
Soccer
Transition Year students Cormac Breslin and Sean Hurley are participating in weekly training for the Leinster under 16 team soccer team.
First Year Extra Curricular Activities
First years are currently enjoying modules of training in rugby, with Barney Hynes, GAA with Darren Magee and basketball with Mary Kinsella and Sarah Merrigan. These extra curricular activities provide valuable bonding and settling in time for the first years and allows them time to make new friends and learn new skills in a relaxed carefree environment.
Hurling
Martin Gilbert, Cian Doyle and Aaron Murphy are playing on a joint schools under 16 hurling team and have an up coming match against Wexford. Best of luck lads!!
